A new mobile-specific design of the City of San Angelo’s website at cosatx.us makes it even easier for users to access its most popular and useful pages from smartphones, said a press release Thursday.
The new design made its debut Wednesday, and features 16 icons linking to pages with information such as job openings, shelter animals available for adoption, online water bill payment, and calendar items. The bottom portion of the design features another half-dozen popular links on the City’s website to pages such as neighborhood parks, an online ticketing site and the Nature Center.
The site’s design will not be altered on desktops, laptops and larger tablets.
When the revamped cosatx.us was launched in February 2014, it featured a responsive design that automatically adjusted to whatever kind of device it was accessed from – desktop, laptop, smartphone, or tablet. "That feature is important," Public Information Officer Anthony Wilson said, noting that smartphones and tablets account for half of the site’s traffic.
Last summer, Wilson learned of a mobile enhancement Vision Internet, which designed the City’s site, had completed for the City of West Hollywood, California. Impressed by the design, Wilson began working with Vision to design a similar smartphone interface for San Angelo’s site.
“Increasingly, we’re all using our phones to access information and conduct business,” Wilson said. “We’re convinced this new mobile enhancement will make it easier for citizens to do that on the City’s website. We developed a fantastic, user-friendly site with Vision two years ago. This shows our commitment to continue to improve cosatx.us so it can be even more useful to the community.”
