Construction to Replace Water Mains Begins Monday

Construction to replace aging water mains will begin on Sherwood Way on Jan. 4, and on East Harris on Jan. 18, said a press release Thursday.

The replacement of a 14-inch water main along Sherwood Way from Clare Drive to West Avenue N is expected to take six to eight weeks.

During construction, water customers may experience temporary service disruptions of two to four hours. The project's contractor, Darnell Construction, will provide 24 hours notice of any interruptions in service.

The impact to traffic will be minimal, although road closures and rerouted traffic will be necessary at both locations. Motorists and pedestrians should obey traffic signs in the construction area.

Construction will typically occur between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, but in some instances, work hours may extend beyond 5 p.m. to complete particular tasks. Intermittent work will also occur on some Saturdays.

A Sherwood Way bus stop in front of H-E-B will be temporarily located closer to the thoroughfare's intersection with West Avenue N. Temporary bus stop signs alerting passengers of the change will be posted by mid-January. Business entrances to the nearby Sonic Drive-In and H-E-B will remain open.

Questions regarding the project should be directed to the City's Engineering Services Division at 325-657-4201. To report water or wastewater service problems, call the Water Distribution Division at 325-657-4295.
