Victim Identified in Feb. 16 Mobile Home Fire

The body discovered in Monday night’s mobile home fire on East 22nd Street is believed by the Fire Marshal’s Office to be that of 58-year-old Gary Dunn.

A DNA swab was taken of a relative of Dunn to be matched with samples taken from the victim during an autopsy. The samples are being sent to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification’s Forensic Services Unit for comparative analysis and identification. Results are pending and may not be available for months.

Because of the extent of the fire and the resulting damage, the victim’s body was unrecognizable and there were no identification cards or other documentation that could positively identify him. The victim was asleep at the time of the fire.

The Fire Marshal’s Office has closed its investigation, ruling the cause of the blaze as accidental. The fire, which was reported at 10:45 p.m. Monday, was ignited by fabric falling onto a hot bulb in an unshaded lamp. The mobile home, in the 1000 block of East 22nd Street, was destroyed. Another occupant of the home escaped the fire.
