Rain didn't stop area residents from heading out to the Sunset Mall on Saturday for the third annual Healthy You Expo, hosted by the Shannon Medical Center.
The all-morning event featured a number of free health screenings, including those for blood glucose, blood pressure, and body mass index. Heavy traffic moved at a slow shuffle through mall corridors, where in addition to the screenings, live demos took place on the half hour ranging from Sword Tai Chi to Piloxing to Zumba.
Various vendors from health and fitness related fields were also present on Saturday, displaying their wares and promoting healthy lifestyles and choices, while offering information for the interested.
"We have classes for kids, from the age of 5. Starting yoga at a young age instills healthy habits." said Stacie Jones from Concho Yoga Tai Chi. " It also teaches relaxation techniques, something we all could use no matter what stage in life you are at. And it's great to be able to come out to the mall and showcase what it is we do, and share it with everyone." she said smiling.
Representatives of Shannon Medical Center kept upbeat throught the expo, promising to make the Healthy You Expo an ongoing tradition.
