Pedestrian Dragged by Truck and Trailer in Hit and Run on Knickerbocker Road

A woman was hit by a truck pulling a trailer this morning around 8:26 a.m. on Knickerbocker Road and Bentwood, after the driver of the truck had switched lanes and struck the victim's vehicle.

Two passengers of the maroon SUV exited their vehicle at the Bentwood light on Knickerbocker and attempted to get the driver's attention, however when the light changed the driver sped off while one woman still clung to the side.

San Angelo Police Officer Mike Gesch is investigating the scene, and said the woman was carried and/or dragged approximately 560-570 feet before falling into the street. She was transported to Community Hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Eyewitness on the scene Chris Cain was heading northbound on Knickerbocker when he saw the hit and run occur in one of the southbound lanes.

"I was driving north on Knickerbocker, and at the Knickerbocker and Bentwood light it looked like there was a wreck," Cain said. "Two girls were standing outside and as they were walking around the vehicle, a truck and trailer in front of them started to drive away kind of quickly. I noticed there was a girl at the side of it on the back passenger's side. It looked like she was kind of in it at first, then it occurred to me she was not in it at all, she was kind of hanging over the side of it.

"Apparently, she got hung up in it and the truck driver kind of dragged her down the road, maybe 150 yards. At the point that she came loose, I guess he was doing about 35 or 40 (mph). I saw her legs fly up into the air and she smacked into the curb. She was just tumbling. I knew what was going on and it wasn't good."

Cain said he immediately turned around and dialed 911 as he witnessed the accident.

Officer Gesch said the PD could not provide any further information at this time, however they have received a rough description of the truck and trailer, which continued southbound on Knickerbocker after striking the woman.

Update 11:30 a.m.

An occupant of the maroon vehicle, who is currently at the hospital with the victim, reports that her friend suffered a shattered pelvis and a broken arm and leg. She also has road rash from the incident. She will be transferred to Dallas today for surgery, she posted.

The vehicle was described as a white/tan truck pulling a rusty trailer with an old tractor on top of it.

The commenter on Facebook also said that they honked the horn several times as the driver pulled off in an attempt to alert him to what had happened. He/she continued driving.

The sex of the driver has not been confirmed.

So this woman was allegedly standing in the road, observing a car accident that had already happened, when along came a truck and she somehow became entangled and was dragged on down the road by it? Perhaps this is why people should utilize common sense and remove themselves from the path of danger (take yourself to the side of the road and wait for authorities to arrive) so that you don't have the potential to be harmed! Oy... I do hope she's ok.

She was actually a passenger of the maroon vehicle that had just been struck by the same truck and trailer. They got out to get his attention as he reportedly appeared oblivious to the fact that he'd hit their car while switching lanes. At that point, he took off but the woman was hung up on the vehicle.

Read the article, she was in the car hit, and went to get the scofflaw's attention by knocking on the window. NEVER do this, I'm surprised she wasn't shot, but being in morning traffic is just as dangerous. Take a phone pic, repeat the license out loud, but never confront! I hope she's okay, but a hard lesson to learn. Good for our good citizen Chris Cain, doing the right thing.
When I see that happen next time, and I see that 300 cars are stopping to give aid to the injured lady, I think I'll go follow the idiot in the pickup and call somebody... just saying.
Eyewitness versus eye witness. One is an observer to an event. The other is a witness for an eye.
If from all the witnesses, somebody could give a better description of truck, trailer or tractor? Truck: make, model, year? Trailer: style, length (how long) Tractor on trailer: type/style (farm, ditcher, bobcat, dozer, etc.)
