San Angelo Health Foundation Announces New Grants to Area Non-Profit Organizations

 

The San Angelo Health Foundation has awarded $242,623 to ten area non-profit organizations, bringing Foundation commitments to $2.055 million for 2013 and $41.6 million since its founding. 

Approximately 185 organizations and 415 projects have benefitted from Foundation funding during its 17 years of grant making. 

Grants Chairman Mike Boyd said the following applications for funding were approved:  

Esperanza Health & Dental Centers was awarded $78,016 to purchase new computer servers and workstations.  Since 1994, Esperanza has offered primary and preventive health and dental care, targeting the uninsured and underinsured.  In 2012 they saw 7,731 medical and 1,231 dental patients. 

The Salvation Army was awarded $75,000 for operational support services including direct financial assistance, food and occupancy costs, salaries, and supplies for the Emergency Assistance and Transitional Housing Programs at the Red Shield Lodge.  The local Salvation Army provides basic needs for the poor in San Angelo since it was established here in 1901. Most recently, Salvation Army facilities served as warming shelters for the homeless during the recent cold weather periods.

West Texas Counseling & Guidance was awarded $73,607 for technology upgrades and funding to support hiring a therapist specializing in substance abuse counseling.  West Texas Counseling & Guidance was founded in San Angelo in 1976 to provide professional counseling.  The organization served 1,112 clients occupying 5,265 sessions in 2012. 

Unsolicited seasonal assistance grants for six organizations totaling $16,000 was also awarded for Christmas programming needs to:

  • Boys & Girls Club of San Angelo
  • Concho Valley Home for Girls/Children's Emergency Shelter
  • Children’s Advocacy Center
  • House of Faith
  • MOSAIC San Angelo
  • Salvation Army
  • San Angelo State Supported Living Center Volunteer Services Council.
