X-Treme Bull, Part 2: The Underdog vs. The Champion

SAN ANGELO, TX — We introduced you to the underdog last video. Now we will learn how he did. In the first round bull rider Tyler Taylor scored a 79 atop a bull named "Cheddar Biscuit." That put him into the finals where the favorite to win X-Treme Bulls, 7x World Champion Sage Kimsey, eeked into the finals too, with an 87 atop a bull named "Crash Cart." Did the underdog top the champions in the second round? The crowd was favoring the underdog.

Into the final round of X-Treme Bulls, of the 36 who entered the contest, there remained only 10. In the Finals, names no longer mean anything. It all comes down to how the Cowboys ride. The final round of Xtreme Bulls at the 91st Annual San Angelo Rodeo was everything the crowd could ask for and more.

The ten best bulls saved for last did everything but disappoint. The bulls flung the Cowboys like rag dolls, the dummy had another bad day, and the Bullfighters had plenty of fighting to do. Even a Cowboy like Stetson Wright, a defending NFR champion, had a tough time. His bull, “Twilight Zone,” sent Wright into another dimension.

One Cowboy who wasn’t seeing stars was our underdog of the match, Tyler Taylor. Taylor scored a 79 in round one but seemed to feel no pressure on his second ride. Taylor took “Con Air” the distance and scored a massive 86.5 in round two. He averaged 165.5 on two rounds.

The question on everyone’s minds was, “Could the underdog get it done?” Unfortunately for the fan favorite, he came up just short. Instead, the legend himself, Sage Kimzey, took home the gold with an 89.5 on the bull, “Pick Up Man.” Overall, he scored 177 points on his two attempts. This victory gave him his 10th Division I Title, the most of all time.

San Angelo LIVE!’s Matt Trammell caught up with Kimzey after all the fanfare to see how it feels to be one of the greatest bull riders of all time. It’s Xtreme Bull Riding, presented by First Financial Bank.
