Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi Notches 13.93-Second Time To Win the 2020 San Angelo Rodeo Barrel Racing

SAN ANGELO, TX — Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi claimed her first ever San Angelo barrel racing title with a 13.93-second time.

On her newer horse Katniss, Tonozzi said she was feeling it was a really good run when turning the third barrel, but didn’t realize she was going to break 14 seconds.

This year, barrel racers are pre-positioned to the side of the run-in pathway, not running down the ramp into the coliseum as they have in past years. The racers sometimes struggle positioning their horses prior to the run after riding them at a walk around a left-hand turn to face the arena before galloping into the arena.

“They changed (to) this last year, and I realize it makes the rodeo go a little bit faster, but it is very tough on us competitors and our horses because it’s such a short distance to the timer (the starting line where the race starts), and it’s really hard to get our horses rolling in there to turn at your first barrel,” she said. We previously interviewed Tonozzi last week here after she ran through the barrels in 14.10 seconds.

Also during the finals Friday night, 41-year-old Matt Reeves clinched his first-ever San Angelo rodeo title in steer wrestling with a 3.7-second time Friday night. We talked to him last week when he moved into position for the San Angelo bull dogging title with a 3.9-second score .

In team roping, we saw times of 3.7 and 3.8 seconds during the 2020 rodeo. The finals did not quite give us those low times, but it did leave the door wide open to Aaron Tsinigine and Kyle Lockett who took the lead in the average with a 4.8-second time, making their combined time of 13.7 seconds on three runs with the rodeo. They took home $5,613 for winning the average.
