SAN ANGELO, TX — Tiany Schuster bested the leader in the barrel racing event, Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi, by 0.05 seconds with a 14.05-second run on her horse named Famous MacGyver. We interviewed Tonozzi earlier. Schuster’s score puts her in first place for the second round and third place in the average. She will likely be in Friday’s finals called the Short Go.
The last few years have been tough until Schuster said she finally found a new horse who could perform like her first one named JSYK I’m Famous “JR” that was sidelined with a leg injury.
The Krum, Texas native said Famous MacGyver, a 5-year-old futurity horse, is her golden ticket this year. “I have found that superstar to take his place,” Schuster said.
She offered advice to younger women looking to get into barrel racing. “Buy a fast horse. It is a horse race. Don’t get attached to fluffy. Know when to move on and get that next one,” she said.
