Hometown Kid Ty Harris Debuts in 2nd Place for Tie-Down Roping at the 2020 San Angelo Rodeo

Thursday night at the first performance, Ty Harris came to San Angelo, scoring a respectable 8.2-second run, that puts him in the slot position to gain a spot in the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo’s finals in two weeks. His score Thursday night puts him in a three-way the for second place and he has already accepted the rodeo’s invitation to compete in the Cinch Chute-Out.

Harris will make another appearance Friday night at the second performance. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2020.

In 2017, San Angelo was introduced to tie-down roper Ty Harris. The Water Valley Wildcat alumnus stunned the crowd at the Cinch Chute-Out. Ty, then 18, he competed head-to-head with roping’s greatest of the year, professional cowboys like Tuf Cooper, Trevor Brazile, Marty Yates, and Shane Hanchey. The second roper across the gate during the first go-round that night, Harris scored a 7.25-second run, leading after the first round. Harris lost out in the second round, but it was that night that confirmed in the minds of many people that the local kid from the Concho Valley was going to make a splash on the PRCA circuit in subsequent years.

In December, Harris finished 9th in the world at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, winning $90,000 there.

Ty was a nice boy but he is definitely a man now. I'm sure his mom and dad are proud, as they should be. His parents are great people.
