SAN ANGELO, TX – Tom Green County polling locations were busy Tuesday as thousands of voters turn out for the Republican and Democratic primary elections.
At Plaza Del Sol, 195 voters had cast ballots as of 10:30 a.m. At the TxDOT office on Kickerbocker Rd. 432 voters had cast ballots in person and the parking lot was full.
Election workers reported minor issues with some of the new voting machines but those issues seemed to be worked out.
Some voters had to cast paper ballots.
Reports indicate busy polling locations like the TxDOT office were recording about 100 ballots per hour with several hours remaining before polls close at 7 p.m.
Elections officials will release early voting results as soon as they are counted after 7 p.m.
A total of 8,731`ballots were cast in the ten day early voting period which ended Friday.
In past elections, officials released early voting totals followed later by an initial cumulative total and then a final total when all the ballots have been counted.
Races driving voters to the polls include Tom Green County Sheriff, Congressman in CD-11, and the Democratic primary for President.
Keith Muncey and J. Nick Hanna are competing in the GOP primary for Tom Green County Sheriff. There is no Democrat on the ballot so the winner in the GOP primary will be the next sheriff.
There are ten candidates vying for Congressman in CD-11 including August Pfluger of San Angelo. The winner of the GOP primary will face San Angeloan John Mark Hogg in the Nov. general election.
Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders are the top candidates for President in the Democratic primary. The one who earns the most delegates on this Super Tuesday has the inside track to the nomination and will face President Donald Trump in November.
