Heat Advisory Issued for West Central Texas

SAN ANGELO, TX — The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for all of West Central Texas for Wednesday and Thursday due to an extreme combination of heat and humidity.

Temperatures and heat index values are forecast to reach around 105 degrees Fahrenheit on Wednesday and 105-110 degrees on Thursday, the NWS Abilene/San Angelo office said Tuesday afternoon. The advisory is in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening.

The NWS offices in Midland and Lubbock have issued similar advisories for their areas.

The service urged residents to drink water before feeling thirsty, avoid outdoor activities between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., wear lightweight and light-colored clothing, and stay in air conditioning, especially during the day.

“Stay hydrated folks and stay inside if you can,” the NWS said in its announcement. The combination of heat and humidity is not common during summer in the region.
