SAN ANGELO, TX — A daily rainfall record for San Angelo was broken early Monday after 1.96 inches were recorded at Mathis Field, surpassing the previous mark of 1.00 inch set in 1914, according to the National Weather Service.
The agency reported the new total at 7 a.m., noting that steady overnight rain pushed the city past the century-old record before sunrise.
Forecasters said lingering showers and thunderstorms were expected to taper off by 9 a.m., followed by clearing skies and a high near 73 degrees. Patchy fog was also possible before conditions improved later in the morning.
The rest of the week is expected to remain quiet and seasonable. Sunny skies are forecast Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs in the low 70s Tuesday and upper 50s Wednesday. Thanksgiving Day is expected to be sunny with a high near 66. South winds will generally remain between 5 and 15 mph through the holiday weekend.
A slight chance of showers returns late Friday, but most of the extended forecast remains dry.
