Flood Watch Issued as Heavy Rainfall Targets Heartland and Northwest Hill Country

SAN ANGELO, TX — The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for areas southeast of a Brownwood-to-Brady-to-Menard-to-Sonora line, with heavy rainfall expected from Wednesday evening through Thursday night.

Forecasters say most locations in the watch area could receive 2 to 4 inches of rain, while isolated pockets may see more than 6 inches, increasing the risk of flash flooding across the Heartland, Hill Country, and Edwards Plateau.

Additional rainfall projections show 1 to 2 inches likely across much of West Central Texas, with a 10% chance that some spots in the Northwest Hill Country and Heartland could reach 5 to 6 inches or more under a worst-case scenario.

The heaviest rainfall is expected late Wednesday night through Thursday afternoon. The Weather Service warns that flooding may occur along roadways, low-water crossings, and near rivers and streams, creating hazardous travel conditions.
