Highs in the 70s Appear in the Forecast

SAN ANGELO, TX — The National Weather Service is forecasting a chance of heavy rainfall and cooler temperatures across the Concho Valley beginning Friday night and continuing into Monday morning, as a cold front pushes into the area and may interact with tropical moisture from Hurricane Lorena.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected late Friday into Monday. San Angelo and surrounding counties are under a Marginal risk for excessive rainfall on both Saturday and Sunday, with a Slight risk developing across southern parts of the area by Sunday. Most locations are expected to receive between 0.25 and 1 inch of rain, with isolated areas possibly seeing totals of 3 to 4 inches. The probability of seeing this higher-end rainfall is estimated at 10 percent.

According to the NWS, flash flooding could occur on roads and near rivers if those higher rain totals materialize. Motorists are urged not to drive into flooded roadways or attempt to walk through moving floodwaters.

Timing and Impacts

  • Friday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers after 1 a.m.

  • Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m. High near 80.

  • Saturday Night: Rain chances increase to 40 percent, mainly after 1 a.m.

  • Sunday: Highest rain chances, at 70 percent, with likely showers and possible thunderstorms.

  • Monday: A 40 percent chance of showers with partly sunny skies and highs in the low 80s.

After peaking in the upper 90s and low 100s on Thursday, temperatures are expected to drop into the 80s by Saturday and Sunday. San Angelo’s high is forecast at 95°F on Friday, cooling to 80°F on both Saturday and Sunday. Overnight lows will dip into the mid to upper 60s through early next week.

Some parts of the Concho Valley could see highs dip into the upper 70s by Sunday and Monday, depending on rainfall and cloud cover.

The increased rain chances and lower temperatures will bring some relief to the region after a stretch of hot, dry weather. However, residents should remain alert for rapidly changing conditions and localized flooding.
