SAN ANGELO, TX — This past summer brought fewer triple-digit days to San Angelo and Abilene than in recent years, according to the National Weather Service.
San Angelo recorded seven days at or above 100 degrees between June and August, a sharp drop from 55 such days last year, 66 in 2023, and 64 in 2022. Abilene saw 16 triple-digit days this summer, compared to 38 last year, 55 in 2023, and 62 in 2022.
In August, rainfall was slightly above normal in San Angelo, with 2.60 inches, while Abilene saw below-normal totals at 1.60 inches. Summer rainfall in San Angelo ranked as the sixth wettest on record, with 11.92 inches. The wettest summer remains 2007, when the city received 13.93 inches.
Temperature averages reflected the cooler trend. San Angelo’s August average temperature was 83.5 degrees, slightly below normal, while Abilene averaged 85 degrees, slightly above normal. San Angelo’s hottest day reached 101 degrees on Aug. 14, 24, and 29, while Abilene hit 103 degrees on Aug. 9 and 14. San Angelo’s coolest August temperature was 64 degrees on Aug. 24, while Abilene’s coolest was 66 degrees on Aug. 31.

Near to above-normal temperatures are expected this week, with highs climbing back into the upper 90s by late week, according to the National Weather Service. Dry conditions are forecast through Friday, followed by increasing rain chances over the weekend as the potential remnants of a tropical wave move into the area.
