SAN ANGELO, TX — Temperatures across West Central Texas are expected to soar into the triple digits Tuesday afternoon, with the National Weather Service warning of highs approaching 105 degrees and the potential to tie or break long-standing temperature records.
A Heat Advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday for McCulloch, San Saba, Mason, and Kimble counties, including the cities of Brady, San Saba, Mason, and Junction.

In San Angelo, the forecast high of 102 degrees will tie the record of 102 set in 2006. Abilene is expected to reach 102 degrees, slightly exceeding its record of 100 set in 2022.
A high-pressure ridge is driving the extreme heat, which is forecast to persist through midweek. Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be the hottest days, with many areas reaching or exceeding 100 degrees. Gusty west winds between 10 and 20 mph will accompany the heat.

The National Weather Service is asking residents to take precautions, including staying hydrated, wearing light-colored clothing, avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and checking on vulnerable individuals such as the elderly and those without air conditioning.
Heat safety tips also include never leaving children or pets in vehicles, taking breaks in the shade on job sites, and limiting strenuous activity outdoors.
