Tornado Watch Issued for San Angelo and Surrounding Areas Until 11 P.M.

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for San Angelo and surrounding areas until 11 p.m. Monday.

The watch includes 13 counties in West Central Texas: Callahan, Coke, Fisher, Haskell, Irion, Jones, Nolan, Runnels, Shackelford, Sterling, Taylor, Throckmorton and Tom Green.

Cities affected include San Angelo, Abilene, Albany, Anson, Ballinger, Bronte, Clyde, Robert Lee, Sweetwater and Winters.

According to the National Weather Service, the tornado watch signifies a possible threat to life or property, with responsive action recommended should conditions worsen. The National Weather Service categorized the situation’s certainty as “possible” with a probability of 50% or less.

The National Weather Service Abilene/San Angelo office warned that a couple of tornadoes are possible across the Big Country and portions of the Concho Valley. Scattered hail up to three inches in diameter and wind gusts up to 70 mph are also possible. An isolated tornado could occur.

Residents are advised to monitor local weather reports and have a safety plan in place in case conditions escalate.
