Rain Chances to Persist Through the Week in Concho Valley, Big Country

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — An active weather pattern will continue across West Central Texas this week, bringing multiple chances for showers and thunderstorms through Wednesday, with another round possible on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The greatest chances for storms are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday. A slight risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe thunderstorms exists Monday afternoon into early Tuesday morning, mainly across the Big Country and Concho Valley. Potential hazards include large hail around 2.5 inches in diameter, damaging winds between 60 to 70 mph, and isolated tornadoes.

Tuesday brings another slight risk for severe storms, with the strongest activity expected in the afternoon and evening and continuing overnight. A few storms could produce large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes.

In addition to the severe weather risk, a marginal to slight risk of excessive rainfall is forecast for Tuesday, with heavy rain potentially causing flash flooding across the Big Country and parts of the Concho Valley.

The probability of precipitation in San Angelo rises to 55 percent by Wednesday morning before decreasing on Thursday. A 50 percent chance of storms returns Friday.

Despite several rounds of April rainfall, San Angelo remains 1.02 inches below normal for the year, with 3.81 inches of precipitation recorded since January 1. In comparison, Abilene is 1.30 inches above normal with 6.95 inches recorded.

Today’s forecast calls for partly sunny skies with a 20 percent chance of showers after 4 p.m. and a high near 91 degrees. 

Tonight carries a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms mainly between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. Tuesday’s high will be near 87 degrees with storm chances increasing to 50 percent by nightfall, according to the NWS detailed forecast.
