SAN ANGELO, TX – The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning and High Wind Warning for all of West Central Texas on Friday, citing critical fire weather conditions and hazardous driving risks due to strong winds.
The Red Flag Warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday as wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph combine with low humidity levels of 10-15%, creating extreme fire danger. Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning, refrain from driving on dry grass, and ensure that chains on vehicles are not dragging to prevent sparks.

A High Wind Warning and Wind Advisory will also be in place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. Sustained winds between 35 and 45 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph, could create hazardous travel conditions, particularly for high-profile vehicles on north-south roadways. Blowing dust may also reduce visibility in some areas.

In addition to the severe wind conditions, temperatures will remain mild, with highs in the 60s and 70s through the weekend. However, a warming trend is expected early next week, bringing highs back into the 80s by Monday and Tuesday.
