SAN ANGELO, TX – The National Weather Service has issued fire weather warnings and severe weather advisories for West Central Texas, including the Concho Valley, due to critical fire conditions and the potential for thunderstorms this week.
A Red Flag Warning is in effect from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday for portions of the Concho Valley and Big Country. Southwest winds of 20 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, will combine with low humidity (10-15%) and temperatures in the upper 70s to 80s to create a heightened fire risk.

On Tuesday, critical fire weather conditions will return, with stronger winds between 25 and 35 mph, gusting up to 50 mph. NWS warns that conditions will be extremely dry, with relative humidity values dropping to 10-15%. The peak fire danger period is expected from noon to 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, thunderstorm chances are increasing for Monday night into early Tuesday, with a 40-70% chance of rain across the region. There is a low (5%) risk of severe storms in the dark green areas in the picture below, while the yellow areas could see a 15% risk of large hail and damaging winds.

Temperatures will fluctuate throughout the week, with above-normal highs expected early on. Monday’s high in San Angelo is forecast at 83°F, dropping to 65°F on Wednesday before rising again Thursday. Lows will range from the mid-40s to low 50s.
