In the aftermath of the recent earthquakes that have shaken West Texas, we must turn our gaze toward the complacency of Texas state representative Drew Darby. As the ground trembled beneath the feet of the people late on February 14, 2025, with tremors reaching a magnitude of 5.0, it becomes glaringly obvious that Darby has failed in his duty to protect the very constituents he claims to represent in San Angelo.

While the seismic activity struck near Toyah, the repercussions of such natural disasters ripple outward, affecting all who reside in the region. Four earthquakes in rapid succession, followed by additional tremors, are not mere coincidences; they are harbingers of the vulnerabilities that have been ignored for far too long. Yet, in the face of this clear and present danger, Darby has chosen inaction, leaving his constituents exposed to the whims of nature.

The residents of San Angelo are left to navigate the uncertainty and fear that accompany such events, their safety compromised by a representative who has failed to take the necessary steps to prepare for the inevitable. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) may provide a platform for individuals to report their experiences, but what they truly require is a leader who prioritizes their safety and advocates for the infrastructure and emergency preparedness that are essential in times of crisis.

Darby’s negligence raises profound questions about his commitment to the people he serves. While other regions have fortified their defenses against natural disasters, implementing stringent building codes and disaster response strategies, San Angelo remains vulnerable, a testament to the failures of its leadership. Perhaps these earthquakes serve as a divine retribution, a stark reminder of the consequences of allowing representatives like Darby and his ilk—those RINOs who have betrayed their constituents—to remain in power, neglecting the very people who placed their trust in them.

As the dust settles from these tremors, it is time for the residents of San Angelo to awaken from their slumber and demand accountability from their leaders. Drew Darby must be held responsible for his dereliction of duty in safeguarding the community against foreseeable disasters. The people of San Angelo deserve a representative who will not only recognize the risks but will also take decisive action to shield them from future calamities. It is time for Darby to rise to the occasion and fulfill his obligation to those who entrusted him with their safety—or face the reckoning that his inaction invites.
