SAN ANGELO, TX — Breezy southwest winds, low humidity, and dry fuels are creating elevated fire weather conditions across West Central Texas today, with the Concho Valley, Big Country, and Heartland areas identified as critical zones.
The National Weather Service reports that afternoon humidity values will drop to 15-20%, while temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-50s. Winds from the southwest will range between 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching even higher speeds. These factors, combined with dry fuels, significantly increase the risk of grass fires.
Residents are asked to take precautions to prevent accidental fires, including ensuring vehicle chains do not drag, avoiding driving on dry grass, refraining from outdoor burning, and properly disposing of cigarette butts.
A warming trend is expected through Saturday, with daytime highs reaching the 50s and lower to mid-60s. Cooler temperatures are forecast early next week, but conditions will rebound to above-normal highs by Wednesday.
