SAN ANGELO, TX - The National Weather Service in Abilene/San Angelo is forecasting up to 6 inches of snow for parts of the Big Country and 4 inches for the Concho Valley from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday night.
Peak snowfall is expected between late Wednesday night and Thursday afternoon, with higher totals likely around Abilene, Eastland, and other northern areas.
San Angelo could see around 4 inches, though some forecast models suggest warmer temperatures might lead to freezing rain, sleet, or reduced snowfall totals. These warmer scenarios are currently considered unlikely.
Travelers are urged to prepare for potentially dangerous road conditions late Wednesday and Thursday. The NWS advises checking road conditions via the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) at 1-800-452-9292 or DriveTexas.org and strongly recommends delaying travel if possible.
To stay safe, officials suggest stocking vehicles with emergency supplies, including a mobile phone, charger, blankets, a flashlight, food, water, and traction aids like sand or cat litter. Drivers should also ensure their vehicles are winter-ready by checking batteries, wipers, and tires.
