SAN ANGELO, TX - West Central Texas is bracing for freezing temperatures and possible snowfall this week, with the National Weather Service issuing multiple advisories for the region.
A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect from midnight through 10 a.m. Monday, with temperatures in the teens and low 20s. Wind chills are expected to drop as low as 5 to 15 degrees due to winds of 5 to 10 mph. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, cover exposed skin, and protect outdoor pipes.
Later this week, there is a 70% probability of accumulating snowfall greater than one inch between Wednesday evening and Friday morning, particularly in areas from San Angelo to Abilene. Daytime temperatures will hover in the mid to upper 30s, while lows are expected to fall into the teens and 20s. Northern areas could see higher snowfall totals, while southern counties may experience mixed wintry precipitation.
Temperatures today are forecast to remain cool, with highs ranging from the upper 30s in the northern Big Country to the upper 40s along the I-10 corridor. North winds of 5 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph, will accompany mostly sunny skies, with clouds increasing in the afternoon.
The extended forecast shows freezing temperatures continuing into the weekend, with highs struggling to exceed the low 40s. Precipitation chances rise mid-week, aligning with the expected snowfall event.
Pets and livestock should be brought indoors during freezing conditions.
