SAN ANGELO, TX – After a mild Tuesday with highs reaching into the 80s, West Central Texas is expected to experience its first widespread freeze of the season by Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service in San Angelo.
Temperatures on Thanksgiving Day will begin to drop significantly following a strong cold front Wednesday night. Highs on Thursday will range from the upper 50s to near 60, with lows in the upper 30s to mid-40s. By Friday morning, temperatures are forecast to dip into the upper 20s to lower 30s, with mid-20s possible in some low-lying areas.
The National Weather Service highlights a 50-95% probability of temperatures dropping to freezing or below across much of the region. Residents are advised to protect sensitive vegetation and ensure pets are brought indoors.
Ahead of the freeze, Wednesday will bring warm and well-above-normal conditions, with highs reaching the upper 70s to mid-80s. San Angelo is expected to see a high of 82 degrees on Wednesday, cooling to 52 degrees overnight. The dramatic shift in temperatures will make for a much cooler Thanksgiving holiday.
No precipitation is forecast through Friday, and winds are expected to remain light. Clear skies will dominate, creating chilly but dry conditions for Thanksgiving travel and festivities.
