SAN ANGELO, TX — Residents across West Central Texas should prepare for strong to severe storms beginning this afternoon and continuing into early Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service in San Angelo.
The storms could bring damaging winds, heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding, and the possibility of isolated tornadoes.
The greatest threat will occur overnight as a line of storms moves west to east across the region. The saturated soils from recent rainfall heighten the risk of flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas.
A Flood Watch has been issued for parts of the Big Country from 6 p.m. Sunday through 6 a.m. Monday. Scattered showers are expected to develop early, with the heaviest rainfall likely during the evening and early morning hours. Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roads and to exercise caution during the severe weather.
Looking ahead, a cold front is set to move through the area late Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing cooler temperatures. Highs will drop into the 60s and 70s, with lows approaching freezing in some areas by Thursday morning. Dry conditions are expected to follow the front.
