Rain Expected Across Southern West Central Texas

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – The National Weather Service in San Angelo has forecasted scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms today, primarily affecting areas south of a Mertzon to San Angelo to Brownwood line. Localized heavy rainfall is anticipated.

Rain chances vary across the region, with Junction and Mason facing the highest probability of precipitation at 73%. San Angelo has a 21% chance, while areas like Sonora and Eldorado can expect rain probabilities of 68% and 54%. The forecast also indicates a potential for locally heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of flash flooding in streets, creeks, and other low-lying areas.

The Weather Prediction Center has highlighted these southern parts of West Central Texas for possible excessive rainfall today. Residents are advised to be cautious of localized flash flooding and to avoid driving through water-covered roadways.

For the extended forecast, minimal impacts are expected throughout the week, with partly cloudy to mostly sunny conditions prevailing. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain a possibility mainly during the afternoons from Thursday through Sunday, particularly in southern areas such as Sonora, Ozona, and along the Mertzon-Cross Plains and Albany lines.

  • Wednesday: Morning lows in the mid-60s to near 70; afternoon highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms south of a Sonora-San Saba line.
  • Thursday: Morning lows in the mid-60s to near 70; afternoon highs in the upper 80s to near 90s. Isolated to scattered afternoon showers and storms mainly south of the Ozona-Brownwood line.
  • Friday: Morning lows in the mid-60s to near 70; afternoon highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s. Isolated to scattered afternoon showers and storms south of the Mertzon-Cross Plains line.
  • Saturday: Morning lows in the mid-60s to lower 70s; afternoon highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s. Isolated to scattered afternoon showers and storms south of the Mertzon-Albany line.
  • Sunday: Morning lows in the upper 60s to lower 70s; afternoon highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s. Isolated to scattered afternoon showers and storms in most areas south of I-20.
