It's Free Fishing Day in Texas!

SAN ANGELO, TX  – Each year on the first Saturday in June, Texans and visitors can pack their tackle boxes, get their fishing poles ready, and fish on any public waterway in the state without a fishing license.

“Free Fishing Day is an annual event that encourages Texans to get outdoors, enjoy nature, and go fishing with family and friends," said Tim Birdsong, Director of TPWD’s Inland Fisheries Division. “Our hope is that experienced anglers will use this opportunity to take others fishing and share their knowledge, skills, equipment, and love of the sport.”

Anglers help sustain Texas fisheries through their purchase of a fishing license, which is the primary source of funding available to TPWD for on-the-ground fisheries management.

Conservation efforts such as fisheries monitoring, fish stockings, fish habitat improvements, and angler access improvements are supported through the purchase of fishing licenses.

For more information on licensing, visit the TPWD license page.

The City of San Angelo is hosting a free fishing event along the Concho River.

The event is open to children of all ages, with specific age groups including 1-6, 7-12, and 13-17.

Registration for the event begins at 7 a.m. at the Celebration Bridge, located at 16 E. Ave. A. Participants must bring their own fishing poles and bait.

Trophies will be awarded for the largest fish caught and the most fish caught.

Texas Parks and Wildlife also says daily limits still apply on Free Fishing Day. You can find those here.
