SAN ANGELO – The Excessive Heat Warning in effect across West Texas will be reduced to a Heat Advisory Thursday then evaporate completely by Saturday as afternoon temperatures drop from 108 degrees Wednesday to 100 Saturday.
Weather experts with the National Weather Service office in San Angelo say the dome of high pressure will deteriorate or weaken a bit by the weekend allowing temperatures to drop slightly. It's still going to be seasonably hot.
Afternoon high temperatures will rebound to around 104 degrees by Monday afternoon. There is no rain in the forecast.
Residents are encouraged to take the normal hot summer precautions when venturing outdoors. Stay hydrated, wear sensible clothing, stay in the shade as much as possible and take as many breaks as you need.
Also look out for outdoor pets, children and the elderly. If you're suffering from the heat, so are they. Make sure anyone you leave outside has access to plenty of shade, fresh water and food.
And never, ever leave a pet or a child or an elderly person locked in a hot vehicle in Texas.
San Angelo has seen 31 days with temperatures 100 degrees or higher in 2023 as of Tuesday.
