SAN ANGELO – The oppressive heat wave that's baked West Texas will end on Saturday according to meteorologists with the National Weather Service office in San Angelo.
The experts say Saturday's high of 100 degrees will be the last triple digit day in this streak of 100+ days. Sunday's high will only be 95 with a slight, very slight, chance of rain.
For Wednesday though, that Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. The afternoon high is expected to reach 107 with heat index values between 105 and 111 so be very cautious when working or spending time outdoors.
By now, everyone knows the drill, stay hydrated by drinking more water than normal, wear loose fitting long sleeve clothing and wear a hat and gloves to protect yourself from the sun. If possible, schedule strenuous outdoor activities in the early morning or late afternoon hours to lessen the impact of the heat.
Stay in an air-conditioned room and bring your outdoor children and pets in with you.
And never, ever leave a child or a pet unattended in a locked in car. That's just crazy.
It will remain hot and dry for the remainder of this week so expect at the very least a Heat Advisory. Saturday night a frontal disturbance will move through bringing cloud cover and that slight chance of rain.
The forecast for Independence Day at this time calls for some clouds with a high in the mid 90s.
