Polar Vortex Howling Winds & Single Digit Temps Will Push Wind Chills Below Zero Thursday Night

SAN ANGELO – The Concho Valley remains under a Freeze Warning and a Wind Chill Advisory until noon on Friday as a Polar Vortex strong cold front has blown through Texas leaving sub-freezing temperatures and bone-chilling, dog-killing dangerous and deadly cold.

According to the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, the strong cold front blew rapidly through West Texas Thursday morning dropping unexpected light snow in the Big Country.

Winds turned northerly and increased to 15 to 25 mph gusting to 40 mph at times.  The high, gusty winds will combine with plunging temperatures in the teens and single digits by Thursday night to create dangerous wind chills around 10 degrees below zero.

Experts advise residents to dress in layers and wear gloves and head wear when venturing out.  Also, exposed pipes should be wrapped or covered and outdoor pets should be brought inside or provided adequate shelter and fresh water throughout the duration of the weather event.

This is a changing and dynamic weather situation and this information will be updated regularly as conditions warrant.
