SAN ANGELO – This week will start off warm for Monday and Tuesday but winter will make a very strong comeback Tuesday night with very cold temperatures and a wintery precipitation mix causing hazardous driving conditions.
Meteorologists with the National Weather Service office in San Angelo predict a shallow arctic cold front will blow into the region Tuesday night dropping temperatures to below freezing where they will remain through noon Thursday.
Weak upper level disturbances will overrun the shallow arctic air mass causing a mixture of freezing rain and sleet for Wednesday and Wednesday night making driving hazardous. There is a very slight chance of snow but no accumulations are expected.
Bridges and overpasses will become iced over first sometime Wednesday during the day. The Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning commute will be hazardous across the entire Concho Valley.
Temperatures are expected to reach the mid 20s overnight Wednesday night and bounce back Thursday to the mid 40s. Overnight temperatures will be in the mid to upper 20s with daytime highs in the 40s through Saturday across West Central Texas. Sunday afternoon should see a return to more seasonal temperatures in the upper 50s.
This is a developing weather situation.
