Artic Blast Could Bring Record Low Temperatures to the Concho Valley

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – A strong arctic cold front is headed to the Big Country and Concho Valley bringing the coldest weather of winter this weekend.

The National Weather Service office in San Angelo has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the region from 9 p.m. Wednesday to 3 p.m. Thursday with additional watches and warnings anticipated. 

For tonight, light freezing rain and freezing drizzle is expected to coat sidewalks, overpasses and bridges with a thin glaze of ice.  Temperatures will be around 30 degrees with a 50% chance of frozen precipitation.  

On Thursday, there is a freezing rain before noon with a high temperature of 39 degrees.  

It will be mostly cloudy Thursday night through Friday night with overnight low temperatures in the mid 20s and a high Friday near 39 degrees.  

Saturday through Monday will be the coldest days.  On Saturday, there is a 20% chance of snow before noon with a high temperature around 33 degrees. 

Saturday night temperatures plunge to around 13 degrees with a wind chill factor near zero. 

Sunday will be very cold with a high temperature of 23 degrees and a 30% chance of snow. 

Sunday night is expected to be even colder with a low temperature around 11 degrees and a 70% chance of snow. 

Monday's high will be around 27 degrees but it should be dry and Monday night the temperature will again drop to 11 degrees before warming up on Tuesday to about 48 degrees. 

This is a dangerous weather situation.  Temperatures this cold can kill outdoor pets and plants.  Unprotected livestock will be affected and unprotected pipes will burst.  Now is the time to take steps to prepare for the worst weather of winter.
