SAN ANGELO, TX –– The excessive heat warning for the Concho Valley expires Saturday evening at 7 p.m. while the head advisory continues through Sunday evening and there is rain in the forecast for Monday.
According to the National Weather Service, dangerously hot conditions with afternoon temperatures of 104 to 107 degrees are expected Saturday.
Temperatures of 102 to 105 are expected on Sunday in Runnels, Tom Green, Concho, Shackelford, Callahan, Coleman, Brown, McCulloch and Mason Counties.
Very hot conditions will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
An Excessive Heat Warning means that dangerously hot weather conditions are occurring or expected.
This will create a DANGEROUS SITUATION in which heat illnesses are likely.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible.
Never, ever, leave children or pets alone in enclosed vehicles, not even for a few minutes.
The forecast calls for a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m Sunday with mostly sunny skies and hot, with a high near 104.
Winds will be west southwest around 5 mph becoming east southeast in the afternoon.
By Sunday night there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with mostly cloudy skies, with a low around 74. South southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable in the evening.
The best chance for rain is Monday with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 97. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph in the afternoon.
Monday Night there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 71. East northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
