Wind Driven Grassfire Near Grape Creek Frustrates Firefighters

SAN ANGELO, TX – Grape Creek Volunteer Firefighters battled the wind and a grassfire near the intersection of Ballard Rd. and Pyburn Ln. Friday beginning before noon.

The blaze caused law enforcement to direct traffic on U.S. 87 N. because the windblown smoke was interrupting visibility.

According to radio reports firefighters had the grassfire under control and left the scene.

The fire rekindled mid afternoon and firefighters went back to the scene to knock it down again.

Firefighters in Crockett County are battling a number of wind driven wildfires as well.

And a vehicle pulling a trailer had a chain dragging as he drove south on U.S. 87 near FM-2105 and N. Chadbourne setting fires Friday morning.
