Starting the Year with a Walk on the Wild Side

SAN ANGELO, TX – Although New Year’s Day was a chilly morning, there were many looking for a little adventure to start off 2020. Shortly before 10 a.m., men, women, kids and dogs headed to San Angelo State Park to participate in the hour and a half moderate hike through the wilderness.

Lead by State Park Ranger Bonnie Wallace, the group of 51 (including 5 kids and 6 dogs), hiked an estimated two and a quarter miles following the ups and downs, twists and turns of the “Roller Coaster” trail before reaching the easier Burkett Trail that brought the hikers back to Burkett Trail Head.

Wallace was very pleased with the “great showing.” She added, “every month, I try to [lead] one hike over on the south side or over on the north side. Not a lot of people know of the north unit, so I really try to push for that one, and get more people to experience it.”

If you missed today’s hike and are interested in exploring San Angelo State Park a little more, you can find information about up-coming San Angelo State Park events on their Facebook, Instagram or on the San Angelo State Park’s event tab located on the Texas Parks and Wildlife website.
