NWS: Last Saturday of 2019 will be Soggy

SAN ANGELO, TX – The final weekend of 2019 will begin with a wet Friday night and Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, there is a better chance of showers and thunderstorms late Friday tonight into the early morning hours Saturday, as an upper level trough of low pressure approaches and a Pacific front sweeps across west Texas. A line of showers and isolated thunderstorms is forecast to track across the region, during the early morning hours Saturday. Rainfall amounts will generally remain below one quarter inch, with localized higher amounts possible.

The line of showers and isolated thunderstorms will be pushing across West Central Texas through Saturday morning. Rain should come to an end by noon for most locations, with the exception of the Hill Country, which may see some showers persist through early afternoon. In the wake of this activity, skies should begin to clear out from west to east as drier air moves into west Texas. The main concern on Saturday afternoon will be the windy conditions developing, especially across higher terrain in the western Concho Valley and Edwards Plateau. Winds will be in 20-30 mph with gusts over 40 possible. After sunset, winds should diminish down to around ten mph. By Sunday morning, the upper-level trough will sweep across the southern Plains, along with a surface cold front. This should result in much cooler temperatures during the day, despite sunny skies. Low temperatures should fall below freezing on Sunday night under clear skies and light winds.

The forecast calls for a chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday evening then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after midnight. Low around 50. South southeast wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

There is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before noon Saturday. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 62. Windy, with a west wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.
