West Texas Bracing for Hard Freeze Wednesday Night

SAN ANGELO, TX – All of West Central Texas will be under a freeze warning overnight as a cold front blows through bringing the coldest temperatures of the season.

According to the National Weather Service Office in San Angelo, A freeze warning remains in effect, for all of West Central Texas from 1 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday morning.

Temperatures below freezing can damage crops, vulnerable vegetation, and unprotected outdoor plumbing. Also, outdoor pets need protection.

Sub-freezing temperatures ranging from 20 to 30 degrees expected.

Frost and freeze conditions will damage crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Wind chill values will range from the low teens to the lower 20s during the morning hours.

A Freeze Warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly.

Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

The forecast calls for a 50% chance of rain Wednesday with gusty north winds and a high near 46 degrees.

Wednesday night blustery north winds gusting to 30 mph and temperatures dropping into the mid 20s.

Thursday's high will reach the mid 50s.

This is a dangerous weather situation,.
