Mosquito Madness: What COSA is Doing to Combat It

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The city of San Angelo has started their yearly spray for mosquitos.

Spraying for these blood sucking creatures is important especially after all of the major rain San Angelo has gotten in the past few months.

The City of San Angelo's Street and Bridge crews have already started spraying for mosquitos. The crews spray Tuesday through Thursday, in the morning from 4:00 a.m.-7:00 a.m., and then again in the evening from 8:00 p.m. untill midnight.

The street and bridge division is also taking complaints if your neighborhood is extremely infested. Once they receive your complaint the city will send out a truck to get rid of the pests.

The following are tips for keeping mosquitos to a minimum around your house:

  • Use a mosquito control.

  • Light candles or lanterns.

  • Set mosquito traps.

  • Spray on personal repellents.

  • Eliminate standing water.

  • Clean up debris.

  • Plant mosquito-repelling plants.

If weather is bad outside the city will not spray for mosquitos. According to the COSA, if everything works perfectly the city expects to have sprayed the entire city in two weeks.

My family finds this interesting as we have yet to see any trucks during those hours, spraying for mosquitoes. With the rain it has been really bad and we have been badly getting attacked. When I go to the park for my morning exercise, you see swarms hovering over the grass and have to walk thru them as well. The city should be doing more! I know we have plenty of city personal to do so!!!!
