Cavalry Competition Delayed Because of Rain

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Due to Wednesday’s wonderful rains, Thursday’s schedule of events for the Regional Cavalry Competition at Fort Concho has been moved to Friday, April 26.

Fort Concho Site Manager Bob Bluthardt reported “our Parade Ground has absorbed much water, so the event judges decided to let the field recover on Thursday.” The competition judges want the field to be safe for both riders and horses, he added.

All five events – military and combat horsemanship, and the jumping, saber and pistol competitions – will occur in two shifts from 9 a.m.-noon and from 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday. If additional time is needed, extra sessions will be held on Saturday.

Frontier Day is still planned as scheduled on Saturday, April 27, starting with the Lions Clubs Pancake Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and events running until noon. The fort will remain open until 5 p.m.

Additional updates will be posted on the fort’s website at fortconcho.com and on the Fort Concho and City of San Angelo-Public Information Facebook pages.
