Thunderstorms with Golf Ball Sized Hail Threaten Concho Valley Tonight

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Strong thunderstorms are forecast to develop across the Concho Valley tonight with the main threat being large hail, damaging winds and flooding.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon and this evening, becoming more widespread tonight. The main hazard will be very large hail, perhaps larger than golf ball size. Damaging winds, deadly lightning, and rainfall heavy enough to cause some flooding of city streets, low water crossings, and
other low lying areas will also be possible.

On Thursday, thunderstorms will be possible, especially across the area southeast of a San Angelo to Brownwood line. In addition to the threat for dangerous lightning, a few storms may become strong and approach severe levels. Large hail and strong, gusty winds will be the main threats.

Additional thunderstorms will be possible Thursday night and Friday into early Saturday, mainly south of Interstate 20. Heavy rainfall could occur during this time period, leading to a threat
for flash flooding.

There is a 70 percent chance of rain tonight with rainfall amounts between ½ and ¾ of an inch possible.  Rain chances will continue through Friday night.
