SAN ANGELO, TX - A new study has revealed that America has a porn addiction epidemic, with related searches topping 30,000 per month on average nationwide.
The analysis by Origins Recovery, a leading addiction and mental health treatment facility, found that searches for help with porn addiction far exceed those for alcohol and gambling, which rank second and third with 9,057 and 6,128 average monthly searches, respectively.
Using data from Google Keyword Planner, the study examined 58 common addictions, analyzing variations of search terms such as “[addictive activity] therapy,” “[addictive activity] recovery,” and “help with [addictive activity] addiction.” The findings highlight which addictions Americans are seeking help for the most.
In the top spot, porn addiction sees an average of 30,749 searches per month from people seeking treatment or help managing the addiction. The term “porn addiction recovery” is the most Googled, with 14,849 searches per month, followed by “porn addiction therapy” at 6,965 average monthly searches.
Alcohol addiction ranks second, with an average of 9,057 searches per month nationwide. The most commonly searched phrase is “alcohol addiction treatment,” which averages 2,748 monthly searches.
Gambling takes third place, with 6,128 searches per month. The phrase “betting addiction treatment” leads the searches related to gambling addiction, with 2,644 monthly searches.
Opioids rank fourth, with an average of 5,761 searches per month. “Opiate addiction therapy” is the top-searched term in this category, accounting for 2,082 monthly searches.
Food addiction comes in fifth, with 4,155 searches per month. “Food addiction therapy” is the most searched term, with 1,380 monthly searches.
The rest of the top 10 addictions include marijuana (sixth place, 3,024 searches), video games (seventh place, 2,734 searches), shopping (eighth place, 2,104 searches), social media (ninth place, 1,488 searches), and benzodiazepines (10th place, 1,430 searches).
Interestingly, porn addiction is the top concern in all 50 states. Alcohol addiction is the second-highest in all but five states, where gambling and opioids take precedence.
