Councilman Hiebert, SMD 1, on Why He's Running Again

OPINION — Today, I announce my candidacy for re-election to the San Angelo City Council, Single Member District One.

Anyone who drives on the streets of San Angelo knows that an immediate priority for the city council must be repair and proper maintenance of our streets. While I will continue to serve the immediate and on-going needs of the citizens in Single Member District One, I will work to develop a plan to address and improve the condition of all the streets within The City of San Angelo. Priorities will, of course, have to be made as this plan is developed and carried out, but every street in this city is important to its people.

During my time on the city council, I have developed good relationships with my fellow council members, so that by working together we can unite in confronting the challenges that face our city. I pledge to continue working in that fashion and to strive to be a voice of common sense, reason and civility in all of our public discourse. No one person has all the answers to every challenge we face and I don't claim to have such solutions. However, in cooperation with my colleagues on the council, as well as members of the Tom Green County Commissioners Court and the SAISD Board of Trustees, I will work every day to be a positive force for our community.

Thought the city planners already had a plan developed, if so why are they NOT following it. It's time to fund and complete the plans. If city planners don't have an extensive plan, they to get off their posturers an develop one OR the city manager needs to terminate them and get fresh blood in those positions. What's wrong with making 5, 10, and 20 year plans and sticking to them. LEAVE politics out of fixing our city.

Good luck Tommy! I wish I could get something done to the street in front of my house. Big pot holes. I’ve complained but to no avail. When they resurfaced the road 2 years ago they filled in the holes on the side streets, but nothing in front of our house. They just resurfaced over the holes. What a waste of tax payers money. Wish you were our commissioner.

Street repair plans? What plans? Why is the city council so worried about regulating food trucks? If street repairs are such a priority, why are almost none of the potholes being repaired or pavement cracks filled in?! I have serious doubts about MOST of the council members ability to carry thru on their campaign promises. I hope Convention Center council chambers has a good exhaust fan, because there is an extreme amount of hot air needing to be exhausted.
