Imagine a school that no longer has to follow the “one-size-fits-all” approach to education. Imagine a school that allows its students to explore various options and even work towards specialization in paths of interest. Sound appealing? Sound like a farfetched dream? For Christoval ISD, it is a belief and a vision that is becoming more real every day. With the new STEM Career Center and other initiatives underway, it is the desire of the members of the Christoval school community to give our children a world-class education.
On May 3, you can help our children get one step closer to being prepared for the future by donating to the Christoval Education Fund. Speaking of the future, it will be here sooner than you realize. The seniors graduating in 2016 started Kindergarten in 2003, and that was not so long ago for most of us. The Kindergartners who started school this fall will graduate in 2028. Right now, that sounds like a long way off, but it really isn’t. So much has happened since 2003. Can you imagine what will happen between now and 2028? One of the few things that remains a constant with the world, with jobs, and with technology is exponential change.
The goal of the Christoval Education Fund is to perpetually support Christoval Schools sort of the same way a booster club supports a school, but in a long-term way as an endowment does. These funds could be used to help support our career and technology initiatives that are underway so that our students will be future-ready when they leave our halls and enter the real world. Our kids have to compete in a worldwide, global market.
The challenges of running a quality school are harder now than ever. The funding gap between school districts is larger now that it ever was when the first Edgewood school finance case was filed 31 years ago in 1981. Of the 1,021 school districts today in Texas, CISD is funded at the bottom quarter.
Regardless of this, standards raise each year for our students, and our buildings and infrastructure still need maintaining and need to be expanded. We are running a race with other schools, but our kids are having to start the race 50 yards behind the starting line, while others are starting at the starting line or are ahead of it.
There are many advantages of growing up in a small rural community. With the support of the parents and community, Christoval schools have produced many graduates who have led successful and happy lives by fulfilling the American Dream. This fund will help impact the lives of future generations of Christoval students as we strive to give them the tools they need to help fulfill their destinies.
