SAN ANGELO, TX - With the dreaded daylight savings time change, millions of Americans will be grappling with disruption to their sleep routine.
Many will turn to social media feeds seeking quick-fix solutions, such as viral sleep trends like mouth taping, vagus nerve stimulation, family beds, weighted blankets, the Scandinavian sleep method, bed rotting, and magnesium supplements.
However, which sleep trend is the most popular varies depending on where you are located. A new study from the sleep wellness and bedding experts at PureCare found out which sleep trend is most popular in each state.
Diving into Google Trends search data for seven of the most searched viral sleep trends from this past year, they found:
In Texas, the top sleep trend is magnesium for sleep.
- What is it? Magnesium supplementation is emerging as a popular natural remedy to improve sleep quality, mainly due to its ability to regulate neurotransmitters like GABA and reduce stress hormones such as cortisol.
- This one can be employed by a simple supplement or concocting a "sleepy girl mocktail."
- Magnesium for sleep is the most popular sleep trend among all the states, with 20 of the 50 searching for this more than any other.
Why is this important now? Seasonal time changes are associated with increased motor vehicle accidents, mood disturbances, increased risk of stroke, and more. Proactively optimizing our sleep schedule ahead of this change isn't just wise—it's crucial to safeguarding health and safety during this period.
Tips for managing the transition: In short, improve your sleep hygiene. Whether it's sticking to a bedtime routine, using aromatherapy, or reducing screen time, just one small improvement can make a world of difference in getting you a more restful night of sleep. PureCare has put together an illustrated guide full of tips to reference.
