SAN ANGELO, TX - In anticipation of an impending bitterly cold weather, the Salvation Army of San Angelo is gearing up to convert its shelter into a warming center.
Located at 34 W. 3rd St., the organization is activating its "Out Of The Cold" program to provide a refuge for those seeking warmth.
"As we prepare for the approaching cold weather system we would appreciate donations of nonperishables, cups of soups, crackers, and pop-top canned items," the Salvation Army stated. "Also requesting plastic cutlery."
Items can be dropped off at 34 W 3 before 5 p.m. and after at 122 W 2.
Registrations for the warming center are scheduled at 6:30 p.m., from the Shelter office located at 122 W 2nd St.
Participants are required to present a valid ID, and those without identification must obtain clearance from the San Angelo Police Department.
Additionally, the Salvation Army is facilitating food distribution from 10 a.m. to noon and again from 1 to 3 p.m. today, addressing both shelter and nutritional needs for the community.

It has been previously reported that over 24 hours of below-freezing temperatures are scheduled to hit the Concho Valley at the beginning of the week, Monday, Jan. 15.
The high for Monday is 30 degrees with the low temperature dipping down to 15 degrees.
The following Tuesday will have a low of 11 degrees and a high of 32 degrees.
