Football Player Body Slams Referee After Being Ejected From Game

EDINBURG, TX -- A Texas high school football game in Edinburg, TX was the scene of an assault after a football player attacked a referee.

On Thursday night, Edinburg High School took on PSJA High School.

During the first half of the game, defensive tackle Emmanuel Duron was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct.

According to the ref, Duron hit the opposing quarterback after the ball was thrown and was flagged for a late hit.

Duron, a senior who is also on the wrestling team, became upset with the ref and ran onto the field and slammed him to the ground.

The video shows the ref was turned away from Duron when the defensive player attacked him.

Duron was subdued by  Edinburg football staff and fellow teammates, but the damage had already been done.

According to reports, the referee was able to walk off the turf by himself but was evaluated for a concussion and shoulder injury.

Duron was escorted from the game by police, but at this time it is unclear if he will face potential charges.

Edinburg High School would go on to win the game 35-21.
