SAN ANGELO, TX-- In a gritty, come-from-behind 52-42 victory over Killeen Shoemaker, the Central Bobcats showed their mettle in the face of adversity. The Bobcats utilized every aspect of their offense in that win, junior quarterback Maverick McIvor especially.
McIvor went 21-27 with 228 yards and five touchdowns through the air, in addition to his 201 yards rushing and one score. McIvor also tallied a receiving touchdown when he caught a pass from Henry Teeter on Thursday night.
The stellar performance from the Central signal caller not only drove the Bobcats to a road win in Killeen, it caught the eye of statewide pundits covering Texas high school football.
Because of McIvor's outing, the pundits at Dave Campbell's Texas Football decided to nominate Maverick to the Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week Award in week four. Ten finalists were named to the list for their week four performances.
McIvor has stiff competition from around the state that includes five other quarterbacks, a linebacker with 16 tackles and an interception return for a touchdown, and three wide-receivers.
