SAN ANGELO, TX – Two West Texas Chefs went head to head on the season premiere of Chopped on the Food Network Tuesday evening.
As previously reported, on Apr. 4, 2023, Former San Angelo Chef Ashley Anessa Young-Turner was scheduled to be on Food Network's Chopped. For the original story see: San Angelo Native to Appear on Food Network's Chopped
Little did we know at the time, Young would not be the only Texan on the show. Also on the show was Odessa chef Alejandro Barrientos. Barrientos owns and operates a restaurant in the Permian Basin called Curb Side Bistro.
In the episode, the two battled it out. Unfortunately for the San Angelo Native, Barrientos was able to serve the better dishes and was crowed Chopped Champion. As for Young, she was just simply chopped.
If you missed the show there will be a rerun of the episode Thursday, Apr. 6, 2023, at 10 a.m. The description of the episode is below.
Gotta fry! The chefs learn that in every round they must use the deep fryer or air fryer to make crispy, creative cuisine. First round jitters affect the chefs as they rush to fry up appetizers, and as the final seconds tick away, it's unclear whether everyone will remember to plate every basket ingredient. Then in the entrée round, a prized meat and a milk substitute are two of the mandatory items the competitors must incorporate into their dishes. The final basket holds some fun ingredients that inspire the last two competitors to create whimsical desserts.
